One of a number of emojis with tears or perspiration being an identifying feature, the crying face emoji is very similar to the slightly frowning emoji, but with more expressive eyebrows and a single tear – two tears in the Samsung version – rolling from its eye. Is placed lower down on the emoji’s face than the face with cold sweat emoji, otherwise the two would look confusingly similar. It’s used for when the sender is upset or hurt, though rarely unceasing sadness. It can be used for fairly minor upsets – ones which would not cause tears in real life – such as having to decline an invitation, or your pizza order having gone wrong!
